Administration of ETH passwords new in the “Web Center”

Since April 15, 2019, the Web application “Web Center” has to be used to manage passwords and other functions. The tool and the look have changed, but the URL has remained the same.

ETH members log into the application with their ETH user name and ETH password for web applications, AAI (LDAP). The explanation video “Change your password” shows in detail how to set or change your passwords in the Web Center. www.its.ethz.ch/iam_tutorials

The function “Forgot password?” is currently switched off and will follow.

The previous nethz-Admin Tool (new name: “Admin-tool without IAM functionality” can be found at the URL www.idn.ethz.ch. It is still used to configure the spam filter, to request a MySQL database and to activate Lync and other services.

Identity and Access Management (IAM)

ETH Zurich operates an Identity and Access Management (IAM) system. The system allows the control and supply of data from the Directory Services LDAP, Active Directory and Switch AAI (ETH-part) that unify the management of groups and distributors, the management of multiple passwords and providing self-service help and helpdesk functions via a web application. The system has been completely renewed and additional features are available.

A uniform and consistent management of identities and access rights is an indispensable requirement for the provision of IT services in a complex environment like ETH. Every member of the school benefits from the unified password management and self-service features that are offered through the web application “Web Center”.

With the new IAM system, which is based on a commercial solution, ETH will be able to satisfy all current legal compliance and accountability requirements. Equally important is the ability of the new system to integrate other identities from other, external IAM systems.
